Reorder PDF Pages

Drag PDF pages into a new order, or type the sequence, and save a rearranged copy.

To reorder PDF pages, drop the file onto Kilnfile's Reorder PDF Pages tool, drag the thumbnails into the sequence you want or type it as 3, 1, 2, 4, then click Save new order; the rearranged PDF is built in your browser and never uploaded. Pages are copied unchanged, and any page left out of the order is dropped.

Drag the thumbnails above or type the order. Pages left out are dropped.

How do I reorder pages in a PDF?

  1. Drop a PDF onto the drop zone, or click it to choose one.
  2. Wait for the thumbnails to load, then drag pages into the order you want.
  3. Or type the sequence into New page order, for example 3, 1, 2, 4.
  4. Click Save new order.
  5. Download the rearranged PDF and flick through it to confirm the sequence.

Reorder PDF Pages draws a thumbnail of each page with PDF.js so you can see the content, then writes a new PDF with pdf-lib in which the pages are copied in the order you set. Copying rather than re-rendering means text stays selectable, images keep their resolution and the output is the same size as the input. The thumbnails and the New page order box are linked: dragging updates the numbers and editing the numbers updates the grid, so you can use whichever is easier.

Dragging is best for small fixes, such as swapping two pages that were scanned in the wrong order or moving a cover to the front. Typing is better for larger rearrangements: on a 20-page document you might type 20, 1-19 to move the last page to the start, or 1, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 6, 8 to separate a double-sided scan into odd and even pages. Page numbers count from 1 and refer to the original positions, not to any numbers printed on the pages.

Any page you leave out of the order is dropped from the result, which is deliberate: it lets you reorder and trim in a single pass. If you only want to remove pages and keep the rest in sequence, Delete PDF Pages is the simpler tool. The tool works on one PDF at a time so that the preview is clear; to interleave pages from two documents, merge them first with Merge PDF and then reorder the combined file. Password-protected files must go through Unlock PDF first.

There is no file size limit beyond device memory, no signup and no watermark. Thumbnails for a long document take a few seconds to render; saving the new order is nearly instant. Everything runs in your browser and the PDF is never uploaded or stored, so it is safe for legal bundles, medical records and anything else you would rather not put on a server.

How it works: this tool uses pdf-lib and PDF.js (Mozilla), open-source libraries loaded into your browser. No server is involved, so Kilnfile never sees your file. Last reviewed 20 September 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a page to the front?

Drag its thumbnail to the first position, or type its number first in New page order, for example 5, 1-4 to bring page 5 to the front of a five-page file.

What happens to pages I leave out of the order?

They are removed from the result. If you want every page kept, make sure each number appears once. This is useful for reordering and trimming in a single pass.

Does rearranging change the quality?

No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their full resolution.

Can I reorder pages across two different PDFs?

Not in one step. Merge the files with Merge PDF first, then drop the combined PDF here and arrange the pages.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Thumbnails are rendered with PDF.js and the new PDF is written with pdf-lib, both in your browser. Nothing leaves your device or is stored.
