How do I generate lorem ipsum placeholder text?

1. Set How many to the number you need, from 1 to 200.
2. Choose the Unit: Paragraphs, Sentences or Words.
3. Leave Start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" ticked for the traditional opening, or untick it for random sentences throughout.
4. Tick Wrap paragraphs in <p> tags if the text is going into HTML.
5. Click Generate, then click Copy output and paste it into your design, template or test data.

Lorem ipsum is the scrambled Latin that designers and typesetters have used as filler since the 1500s. It is loosely derived from a passage of Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum written in 45 BC, with the words shuffled and altered enough that it reads as nonsense. That is the point: because nobody can read it, reviewers look at the layout, spacing and type rather than getting distracted by the meaning, and the mix of short and long words gives a realistic texture on the page.

The three units suit different jobs. Paragraphs are the default for mocking up body copy on a web page or in a document; three paragraphs is roughly 150 to 200 words, enough to fill a typical content column. Sentences work for headings, captions, card descriptions and form hints where you need something shorter than a paragraph. Words let you hit an exact length, such as 12 words for a strapline or 50 for a meta description test, and pair well with the Word Counter and Character Counter.

Wrap paragraphs in <p> tags outputs each paragraph as <p>...</p> so you can paste straight into an HTML template, a CMS source view or a React component without adding markup by hand. With the option off you get plain text with a blank line between paragraphs, which is what Word, Figma, Google Docs and email templates want. Untick Start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" if you need several independent blocks that do not all open with the same phrase.
